Our Story

Inspirations Ipswich is an Artist run co operative. The gallery is run by the members with no paid positions so when you visit the gallery you will be able to speak with one or more of our Artists.

It all began when Julie Maddocks received a commission from Artslink Qld, Animating Spaces Project for the Bottle Alley Mural.

At the opening on August 22nd the Ipswich Mayor Paul Pisasale announced there was a project called Activate Ipswich offering free rent for startup businesses.

This sparked a yearning to open an artist run co-operative and over a coffee we developed our ideas.

Our business plan. Not-for-profit artist run co-op, providing opportunities for its members to exhibit high quality, traditionally styled, Interstitial and innovative artworks, which are inspired by Ipswich.

Encourage emerging artists to develop their art practice using traditional art skills. Providing opportunities to reinvigorate traditional skills with workshops and demonstrations.

The Gallery. The Ipswich City Square Management and Activate Program provided us with an unused café that was perfect for our needs just behind the Ipswich City Cinemas.

We obtained 2 grants to assist with the set up. The Mayor and Councilors were extremely helpful and encouraging with the project. Everyone set about cleaning, painting, borrowing and purchasing all we needed.

November 22nd the Gallery was opened by Mayor Pisasale with Cr Antoniolli in attendance, they gave great praise for what we had achieved in a short space of time.

Various artists started exhibiting on a regular basis giving us a variety of work, including porcelain on-glaze, ceramics, glass, textiles, photography, paintings, vector drawing, and enameling.

Since opening we have acquired another photographer, an aluminum artist, mosaic artist, and another jewellery maker.

We are continuing to evolve by looking for more artist that will add to our range of art. We offer dedicated exhibition space for group or solo exhibitions, hired on a weekly basis and we have other spaces which can be hired for corporate events, meetings or workshops.

Go to the Feature Gallery page to see our current and planned exhibitions. Main Gallery shows some of our current range available for sale. Workshop page for events and hire.
